What Chemicals do I Need for My Hot Tub?
To enjoy your spa safely and prevent unnecessary mechanical failures, you will need a few important items.
The most important step is sanitizing the water. You can do this by adding bromine or chlorine to the spa, however we recommend using bromine. Bromine has less odour than chlorine and is easier on your skin and eyes.
Use any 1 of these methods:
- bromine pucks: 1 bottle bromine pucks, 1 bottle non chlorine Spa Shock. Non-chlorine shock that works in 2 ways; it quickly brings up the bromine level and also burns off bromamines, reducing the chemical smell and irritation of your spa water.
- bromine granular
- chlorine pucks
- chlorine granular
** If your spa has an ozone generator, you will require a lot less sanitizer and non-chlorine shock.
Use the following products to adjust the pH and alkalinity level:
- 1 bottle of pH Plus, 1 bottle of pH Minus and a Water Test Kit or Test Strips.
Use a stain and scale chemical like Secure to avoid spa discoloration and build-up of scale on your mechanical parts. Chemicals for stain and scale control like protect plus, prevent damage caused by minerals in your water.
Last, you need a filter for your spa that will need to be cleaned monthly and replaced after 12 months of use. Soak your filter in Filter Cleaner to remove collected oils.
A water clarifying agent like Super Clarifier and Foam Out are also essential.
Note: If you are using a 1 Micron Disposable filter, you do not need Secure, Spa Clarifiers, Filter Fresh or Foam Out.
